Today’s #FearlessFemme is Mia Davis, an entrepreneur and UX designer shaking up the sex-ed industry with the app Tabú, “a network and educational resource that connects young people with one another and a wide array of ‘sexperts.'” Mia and her team have worked relentlessly to design and execute a beautiful resource that actually connects with our generation – goodbye awkward health class and conversations with our parents! We’re so excited about the significance of Tabú when it comes to sex education and can’t wait to learn more about Mia below!
Name: Mia Davis
Where do you call home? Currently, NYC! (but I’m from Hinsdale, IL and a proud Midwesterner)
What do you do for a living? I am the founder of tabú, an educational platform & community for sexual health. I am a UX Designer by trade.
Name 3 people who inspire you: My mom, Rihanna, and Whitney Wolfe
What motivates you? Injustice.
Who is your favorite person on social media right now? Dorit Kemsley. (whatever, I’m basic.)
What is your greatest extravagance or splurge? I probably spend too much on skin care. But then again…you really can’t spend too much to keep those fine lines in check.
Where is your favorite travel destination? Dubai or Amsterdam.
How do you take your coffee? Matcha for me!
Describe yourself in three words: random, (com)passionate, tenacious
What advice would you give your younger self? Stand up for yourself. A healthy relationship (friendship, romantic, or otherwise) is reciprocal.
Where can we find you on a Sunday afternoon? My apartment – working/watching tv. OR, at my friend’s apartment while he cooks and I pretend to be helpful.
What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever gotten? “Never stop talking.” Also, “Your friends (and partner) should lift you up, not drag you down.”
If you could be any superhero, who would you be and why? I would be Rihanna (a real-life superhero) because she is giving, hilarious, multi-talented, and unapologetic (also an amazing album, by the way).
Where’s your favorite place to eat? Van Leeuwen or Nordstrom Cafe with my mom.
How do you stay sane balancing your life and career? I don’t.
What’s your favorite app right now? Speaking in future tense, tabú of course! But I also love Swarm for design reasons and Airtable for productivity/organization purposes.
Big thanks to Mia for being so down to earth and sharing her life with us! Make sure to follow her journey on the interwebs at @mtotheia and @talk.tabu (which is one of our favorite feeds of the moment!).
