Learn more about Juliet and her fitness and entpreneurial journey below!
Femme & Fortune: Let’s start from the beginning – who are you and what’s your story?
I am Juliet Sabella, and I own The Wall Cycling Studio. I started my love for fitness when I was told in August 2003 I needed to lose weight when the scale started pushing close to 200 lbs (I’m 5’2″). I went on a diet, started to love fitness, and that’s where my passion for being healthy came from.
Femme & Fortune: What was one of the first jobs you’ve had and what’s something memorable that you learned from that experience?
When I was like seven years old, I remember setting up a table with nail polish in my living room and having my sister sit down to paint her nails. I remembered I really liked the idea of sitting down and talking and doing something I really liked doing. I then told her she had to pay me haha.
Femme & Fortune: Can you tell us about your passion for indoor cycling and other fitness outlets?
I just love group fitness and really enjoyed how fast the classes went. When I am not spinning, I love running and taking barre classes.
Femme & Fortune: What made you take the leap and start your own business?
I was laid off and didn’t quite know what to do next. But, I noticed how many people attended my local gym’s spin classes, so I figured this had to be a great addition to the neighborhood. So, I kind of operated on a gut instinct that told me Manayunk needed indoor cycling!
Femme & Fortune: Do you remember any struggles when creating The Wall?
Going to Licenses and Inspections in Center City always seemed to be a challenge. It just took forever, so I would make sure to get there as soon as they opened so I could be first in line. I think also learning how to juggle a bunch of different personalities with staff and making sure they were all happy was definitely a challenge at first!
Femme & Fortune: What sets The Wall apart from other fitness studios?
Our participants are at the forefront of every decision we make. We take their requests and feedback very seriously. We also know the importance of how a fitness class can help turn someone’s day around, so we never cancel a class, no matter how many people are signed up.
Femme & Fortune: What classes do you provide for clients at the Wall?
We have spin classes, barre classes, and yoga classes. They are designed to cater to all levels, and we encourage our participants to just join in on the class that works best for their schedule. We have classes starting as early as 5:10 a.m. and as late as 7:30 p.m.!
Femme & Fortune: How have you created a balance in your life with running a business full-time?
I am still working on that and think I will be for the rest of my life. We have a great management team though, and I am comfortable knowing they will make the right decisions in things that come their way.
Femme & Fortune: What would you say to a young woman who is trying to break into the fitness business?
Just do it. If you are passionate enough about it, you will find a way to make it happen.
Femme & Fortune: Is there anyone who was especially supportive through everything you went to, and how did they help?
My husband. He is the reason this was able to happen, and I am so grateful for all of the support. He has taken on so much so we can build this community, and I look forward to the day when I can say, Hi, you can quit your job now if you want :).
Femme & Fortune: What’s next for you and The Wall?
