We’re back with another edition of Bachelor of the Week, but this time we’re going international! Eric Stephenson is a bachelor with a heart of gold, ambition that reaches the moon, and a love for travel and adventure that will have every femme fall head over heels. He’s also an amazing dance partner, so be sure to dust off those dancing shoes with him. Enjoy!
Eric Stephenson/ 28/ Associate at an asset management firm
2) Hometown/Currently Living In:
Hackensack, New Jersey / Currently living in Amsterdam
3) Do you have any nicknames?
4) Take us through your ideal first date scenario…
I think it’s exciting when you build up enough courage to actually ask the person on a date and they say yes, which makes you nervous/excited and all smiles until you go out. My ideal scenario would be to do all the planning of the first date, it would be something cool and adventurous, but would be a complete surprise to the other person.
5) What traits do you look for in a partner?
Empathy, affection, and a good sense of humor. Empathy is a big one for sure-—I think it’s one of the best qualities any individual can have.
6) Relationship deal breakers…and go!
Hmm, I’d have to say apathy and entitlement. The opposites of the two would be passion and hustle—-and I think it’s super cool when you meet someone who’s passionate about something and gets excited to work towards exploring that passion.
7) How many dates until the first kiss?
I don’t know if there’s a number, but the question makes me think of the movie Hitch and the 90/10 rule. I think when the first kiss opportunity is there you’ll know it, you’ll probably be really nervous, and hope you’re not overeager and go the whole hundred!
8) Favorite pick-up line and success rate!
“See, I’ve got this little problem. I’ve got a stalker…I need a cover. I need for you to pretend we’re having a scintillating conversation, and you are wildly entertained.” That worked for Tom Cruise in the movie Vanilla Sky. If that’s a no-go I usually just take a page from the Notebook and scream, “I want all of you! Forever! Every day!”
9) What are some of your guiltiest pleasures?
Umm, OK. I can probably eat like 10 cupcakes at a time so when I’m at a professional event that has cupcakes I have to be sneaky so people don’t see me taking so many. Also, sometimes I get addicted to trying to copy dance moves from YouTube videos.
10) Name some of your favorite destinations around your city and why.
So I just moved to Amsterdam for a short-term work assignment and everyone rides a bicycle here. So “when in Rome” I got a bike and ride it everyday to get to-and-from work and on weekends to explore the city. It’s really hard to pick a favorite place because Amsterdam has 1,500 bridges built over a system of canals that run through about 90 islands, so there are a bunch of really cool spots you just stumble upon around the city. I guess I’d have to highlight this Surinamese restaurant/bar on one of the canals just west of the city center-—I had a blast when I went the first time. It’s a chill spot, everyone hangs out on the big patio outside, and small boats come by and dock to grab food and a beer. It just has a cool vibe to it.
11) Where can we find you on a Friday night? How about a Sunday afternoon?
This question makes me smile because since I’m only in Amsterdam for a few months I promised myself I would try and see as much of Europe as I can on the weekends. So Friday night I’m usually leaving work straight for the airport (which is one metro stop away) and getting on a cheap flight to a place I’ve never been before in Europe. Sunday afternoon I’m usually having one last bite in whatever city I’m in before heading back to the airport to fly back to Amsterdam before work starts on Monday morning.
12) Who’s your celebrity crush?
I have to go with Alicia Keys. I saw her at the Global Good Summit in NYC last year and she’s just so empowering all around—-the way she carries herself, her music, her message, her presence, and her philanthropic work. Not to mention she’s hilarious and beautiful AND graduated from high school at the age of 16, was valedictorian, and was accepted into Columbia University. She’s amazing. Do you think she’ll read this?!
13) Who would you say your celebrity doppelgänger is?
I get told I look like Trevor Noah or Austin Rivers quite a bit. Not quite sure I see it but I think Trevor is an awesome comedian and I’m looking forward to seeing him take over the Daily Show, and Austin Rivers is a great basketball player, so I take both as a pretty cool compliment.
14) What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about using business as a tool to make the world a better place-—harnessing philanthropy, social entrepreneurship and impact investing to build the best businesses for the world. And I think I’m blessed to have found a position with a company that’s doing just that.
15) What’s currently on your nightstand?
“The Road to Character” by David Brooks, which is the current book I’m reading, my iPhone, and a really cool/weird looking lamp.
16) What’s your favorite app that you’re using now and why?
I’m going to sound like such a nerd but I’m loving the Instapaper app. It syncs articles to the app and lets you read them even when you’re offline. I do a lot of traveling so I sync news articles and read them when I’m in-flight.
17) Last song you downloaded or put on a playlist?
No Sleep by Janet Jackson
18) Last but not least, where can we find you online?
You can find me on Twitter and Instagram @EricTrack.
