For those of you who enjoy documentaries, Netflix is always a good source of classic and new titles for you to watch instantly. The only problem is that sometimes you just don’t know where to start in Netflix’s huge library of movies! So instead of watching your favorite drama or reality show this week, check out my picks for must-see documentaries on Netflix below. All of these documentaries are inspiring in some way because of the passion the documentary characters exhibit in working to fulfill their dreams.

Jiro Dreams of SushiJiro Dreams of Sushi focuses on Jiro, an 85-year-old master sushi chef. Jiro owns a highly regarded restaurant called Sukiyabashi Jiro.  This documentary is not just a story of one man’s career path, but also a study on discipline, pursuit of perfection, mastery of a craft, and the relationship between a father and his sons.  Despite his advanced age, Jiro continues his personal quest to perfect the art of sushi.  Jiro has two sons who are also sushi chefs.  Jiro’s elder son works with him and because of familial duty is expected to take over the restaurant at some point, though Jiro who has no present plans for retiring.  Jiro’s younger son opened his own restaurant, which is a mirror image of his father’s restaurant. Anyone interested in craftsmanship and the beauty of artful food will enjoy Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

Bill Cunningham New York

Bill Cunningham New York touches on the life of Bill Cunningham, another 80-something-year-old man who is passionate about his craft and career despite his advanced age. Cunningham has photographed fashionable New Yorkers, celebrities and tastemakers for decades. His photos capture trends and the amazing creativity that his subjects put into their personal style. Fashion lovers will love this heart-warming story.

First Position - Netflix

First Position follows the stories of several young dancers training for the Youth America Grand Ballet Prix, a prestigious ballet competition. This dance competition can determine the career path of a dancer, which is highly competitive.  First Position delves into the level of sacrifice it takes from the dancers and their families to be assured that they are on the path to become world-class ballet dancers. First Position would definitely appeal to dance-lovers or those striving to achieve big goals.
