Say Goodbye to Dry Cleaning Bills with Laundrea

Say Goodbye to Dry Cleaning Bills with Laundrea

It’s almost rare to find clothing these days that are locally designed and produced. For entrepreneur and our Fab Femme this week, Rachel of Laundrea tells us all about her beautiful and easy-to-wear fashion apparel company. Move over dry cleaning bills, Laundrea is here to stay.

Rachel Godwin Becker Femme & Fortune: Tell us about little bit about yourself as well as how Laundrea all started.

Rachel Godwin Becker: My name is Rachel Godwin Becker, and I graduated from the International Academy of Design in Tampa, Florida with a bachelors in Fashion Design with a Fashion Marketing minor. I am from Delaware County, Pennsylvania where I currently design Laundrea. Laundrea is a completely machine washable, career-friendly dress line manufactured in the garment district of NYC. What is career friendly? All of our garments are bra-friendly and can take you from desk to dinner!

Femme & Fortune: What made you decide to create clothes that were specifically machine-washable friendly?

Rachel Godwin BeckerI moved to NYC straight out of art school with an internship in the bridal industry. I had to have a professional wardrobe and I honestly couldn’t afford to pay for dry cleaning. When I decided to leave the bridal industry and move home to Philadelphia to start my own line, it stuck with me how many women must be in my shoes who either don’t want to deal with the hassle of dry cleaning or simply can’t afford it! Femme & Fortune:  Where do you find your everyday inspiration?

Rachel Godwin BeckerI find everyday inspiration in real women. The ones who are on the run all day everyday that need to feel comfortable, stylish, yet are still able to take on anything that is thrown their way!

Femme & Fortune:  How would you describe the style of your collections?

Rachel Godwin BeckerI’d describe the style of my collections as easy: easy to wear, easy to style, and easy to transition from season to season!

Femme & Fortune:  What is your favorite piece from your latest collection?

Rachel Godwin Becker: From our Fall/Winter 2013 collection, I am really drawn to our Coffee colored 2724 dress – it has a draped cowl neckline, long sleeves, and a gathered skirt. It truly is one of my most comfortable pieces in my wardrobe; I love to throw on boots and a belt with it for the perfect Fall/Winter outfit!

Femme & Fortune: Tell us about your favorite fashion designer!

Rachel Godwin BeckerMy favorite designer is Lily Pulitzer, I love the story of how she became a designer and the brand that she built. She embodies a legacy and a lifestyle that that I hope to create one day with my Laundrea customer!

Femme & Fortune: Which celebrity would you love to see wearing Laundrea?

Rachel Godwin BeckerKelly Ripa, love love love her!

Femme & Fortune:  If you could choose 3 fashion essentials every woman should have in her closet, what would they be?

Rachel Godwin BeckerThe perfect black dress (doesn’t have to be little or only cocktail appropriate), a great pair of spanx, and a light weight scarf that can dress up or down any outfit!

Femme & Fortune: Let’s talk about Philly now! What’s your favorite Philadelphia hotspot or location?

Rachel Godwin Becker:I love grabbing dinner and drinks with my husband at the Continental Midtown (when we have a babysitter). Style

Femme & Fortune: What advice would you give to up and coming designers?

Rachel Godwin BeckerIt isn’t easy, be prepared to dedicate a majority of your life to this dream, it will be worth it, and the little victories are the best!

Femme & Fortune: Is there anything else you’d like to add about starting Laundrea and your hopes for the company?

Rachel Godwin BeckerI wouldn’t be where I am at this point with Laundrea if it had not been for my support system, my mother (Mariann Godwin) is an absolute amazing business partner, not many people can work with family but she is definitely the ying to my design yang. She is honest which is a trait not many have, she will tell me if something just isn’t working and she has a positive outlook on everything. We know that at the end of the day even if we have made a mistake, we have learned from it and we move on!
