Philadelphia Magazine hosted the 40th anniversary of the Best of Philly: Chocolate 2013 last week on May 15th, where hundreds of people showed up to test chocolate from 5 top companies around Philadelphia and to cast their vote for Philly’s Best!
The day was perfect and while most of the morning was dull and gray the sky perked up around noon and let some sunshine in for this delicious event at Rittenhouse Square. The park was bustling with the cities business workers, nannies, and dog walkers, all were eager to try some of Philadelphia’s best Chocolate all in one place and all for FREE!
Here are the five contestants in order by how delicious I found their treat (Note this is not in what order I feel the companies rate):
Chocolate by Mueller with their Peanutzel (Peanut Butter & Chocolate half-dipped pretzel) looks like I’ll be visiting the Reading Terminal market soon!
Shane Confectionery with the Whirly Berely Bars (Chocolate nougat candy bars with salted chocolate caramel and mast brothers nibs).
Lore’s Chocolates with their Milk chocolate sea salt caramels.
Marcie Blaine Artisanal Chocolates with their Chocolate with Peanutbutter pretzel ganache filling (Kudos on the exceptionally cute designs on the chocolate).
And Éclat Chocolate with their Peruvian Pure Nacional Truffle which is hand selected in Peru.
The turn out was amazing and the chocolate went fast! If you are looking for the winner you have to wait until August for the final issue of Best of Philly at Philly Mag for the reveal of the winner but if you are feeling up to trying these for yourself visit the shops at:
